Gluten Free Living: Sweet Ali’s Spotlight
If you have ever had the opportunity to meet Jen Miles from Sweet Ali’s you won’t easily forget her. She is one of the nicest, most out-going people around. She is truly passionate about good gluten free food for anyone that needs it and that makes her the perfect person to promote and sell Sweet Ali’s products to our wholesale partners. If you live in the North or Northwest Suburbs you can thank Jen for making sure Sweet Ali’s products are always available in the stores near you!
What is your job at Sweet Ali’s?
I work in sales placing Sweet Ali’s products into a variety of different grocery stores throughout Chicagoland. I ensure the products are always in stock and work with our wholesale accounts to place orders and introduce new items. I am so passionate about Sweet Ali’s products as the quality and taste are phenomenal.
What brought you to Sweet Ali’s? How did you get here?
When I was diagnosed with Celiac disease five years ago, I found Sweet Ali’s and could not get enough of it. I would take the drive from Northbrook to Hinsdale on a fairly regular basis to get all my favorite treats. Honestly, one day I was visiting and I asked for a job. I love Sweet Ali’s products which makes me truly passionate about my job.
What’s your favorite thing about working at Sweet Ali’s?
I really love the people I work with and the people I meet out in the field. Although, I don’t spend that much time in the bakery, when I am there, I enjoy it so much. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. Most of my relationships are via phone and email, but I feel I have made some really wonderful friends through Sweet Ali’s. I also have made many wonderful connections with our customers. Honestly, nothing is better then when a gluten free child walks up to me at a tasting and his/her mother tells the child that he/she can try everything on the table.
What’s your favorite place to visit?
If we are talking vacation spot, definitely Maui, Hawaii. My husband and I spent our honeymoon there and our 5th anniversary there. I love the warm weather and the yummy food.
What’s your favorite food?
I love Chinese Food – fried rice would be my favorite, as well as sharing Sushi with my 7 year old.
What is your favorite Sweet Ali’s item?
I think I have a tie – I am a HUGE fan of the decorated sugar cookies as well as slightly obsessed with the Bacon Cheddar Rolls. They taste very similar to a Latvian Piragi bacon bun that my grandmother used to make.
What’s your one indulgence?
I really love dark chocolate. Specifically, the key lime truffle at Godiva would have to be my one indulgence. I try to limit myself to once a month, but honestly I can’t pass a Godiva without going in and getting just one!
What your favorite Sweet Ali’s music mix?
Hmmmmm….that’s a tough one. I’m not sure what my favorite music mix would be at the bakery, but I would say that the two days during the holidays I worked the 4am-12pm shift, I was NOT a huge fan of the Michael Jackson mix. It was a little too early for me to listen to Michael. In the car, I am truly a book on cd lover. I’m a big fan of chick lit!
What’s one thing about you people would be surprised to know?
I was a contestant on the Price is Right in 1998. It was my 15 minutes of fame with Bob Barker!
