Jaime Lazarz

As Head Decorator, Jaime Lazarz is Sweet Ali’s Fairy Godmother of cakes, cupcakes and decorated cookies. With a wave of her pastry bag, she is the creative force behind such gluten free masterpieces as 3-tiered rosette wedding cakes, high-heeled cupcakes, elaborate “Frozen” cakes (complete with snow scenes, frozen lakes, and Elsa and Anna), football field and golf course cakes, and coming this holiday season … GF gingerbread houses.

We ask our customers, “What is your heart’s desire?” Jaime answers with her creative and clever touch and turns their dreams into realities.

What is your job at Sweet Ali’s?

I am Sweet Ali’s Head Decorator, so I oversee production and finishing of our awesome cakes, cupcakes, and cookies.  I also lend a hand in developing new cupcake flavors and frostings, designing new cookies and cakes, as well as working with our wedding consultant to develop our growing wedding cake business.

What brought you to Sweet Ali’s? How did you get here?

I studied Baking and Patisserie at Le Cordon Bleu in Chicago, and from there I went to work as a cake decorator at Whole Foods.  After a couple years, I was ready to step up my game and work in a more skilled and creative environment.  When I came to interview at Sweet Ali’s, I loved the atmosphere up front, and it seemed like a young, growing company.  I also thought the kitchen looked HUGE, although I think we’ve outgrown it a bit now.

What is your favorite thing about working at Sweet Ali’s?

I love working with customers and the front staff to create custom cakes and wedding cakes.  That above anything else is why I chose this profession in the first place … an outlet for my need to create.

What is your favorite place to visit?

MAUI!!! My husband and I stayed right on Ka’anapali beach about 2 years ago, and we fell in love with the island.  The last day of our vacation we sat on the beach with our luggage and planned out our next trip.

What is your favorite food?

Ice cream.  All shapes, sizes, and flavors.

What is your favorite Sweet Ali’s item?

It depends on my mood.  My favorite thing is probably just eating the middle bite of our mega chocolate chip cookies, but I have probably spent half a paycheck on Tempe mix over the last couple years.

What’s your one indulgence?

I think if I just say “sugar” that covers everything.  Well, except my love of TV and movies, Coach bags, wine, and spending time with my family.  I can’t just pick one … life is good.

What’s your favorite Sweet Ali’s music mix?

I love the Fall Out Boy and Green Day Pandora stations.  They play a mix of emo/alternative songs from the early 2000’s that remind me of being an overly dramatic teenager (hahaha).

What’s the one thing about you people would be surprised to know?

I run over 20 miles every week! I think that exercise is so important not only for physical health, but for mental wellness and stress management.  I started running more than 3 years ago, and it has brought so much positive energy into my life.  It is my absolute “me-time,” and I encourage everyone to find something like running, swimming, dancing, zumba or otherwise.
