Back to school — Gluten Free style!

Posted on August 24, 2015

It is almost back to school time for the kiddos. This summer has flown by (don’t they all?). In less than 6 months, we will be celebrating the winter holidays (sorry, didn’t mean to cause panic!).

But for now, let’s focus on school. The kids will be going back to school any day now and having a gluten free kid makes the beginning of the year a bit more challenging. If the kids are younger, it is time to educate a new teacher on the ins and outs of being gluten free and how to keep your kid safe. If they are a bit older, it is gathering the courage to trust that your kid will do his best at school and extra curricular activities and not cave to peer pressure and eat gluten. Of course, going to college is a whole other story and way too much for this blog from the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness.

A challenging part of back to school is the lunchbox. You want to make a yummy, but somewhat healthy, lunch for your gluten free kid (or any kid for that matter), and it gets exhausting to do day-in-day-out for an entire school year. Here’s a list of websites that have some great gluten free lunch ideas when you are looking for inspiration … and when you can’t possibly make another peanut butter and jelly sandwich:

10 Gluten Free School Lunch Ideas from Spaceships and Laserbeams

40 days of Gluten Free Lunches from The Paleo Mama

20 Non-Sandwich School Lunch Ideas for Kids from Keely McGuire

We hope that your kids (gluten free or not) have a wonderful first day of school.
