Sweet Ali’s Audrey Kapovich shares her contagious smile with everyone she meets.  She wears many hats, but perhaps the most important and endearing one is her role as the bakery’s party planner.  Audrey organizes themed monthly birthday celebrations and lunches for the hard working Sweet Ali’s staff.  Be it a Mexican fiesta, a soup and salad buffet, or breakfast for lunch, Audrey takes care of our spirits and reminds us that life is worth celebrating.  She is truly the heart of the bakery!

What is your job at Sweet Ali’s?

Everything!  I have worked the front counter as well as wholesale packaging and wholesale deco.  I have mastered frostings and filled in for bakers in a pinch.  But no techy stuff!

What brought you to Sweet Ali’s?  How did you get here?

I was in the College of DuPage Culinary Program, and I needed to find an internship.  Ky (Sweet Ali’s head baker) was in cake decorating classes with me, and she started at Sweet Ali’s with an internship and was then hired.  I followed her to Sweet Ali’s as an intern, and then I was asked to stay.

What’s your favorite thing about working at Sweet Ali’s?

The people.  I love everybody here.  This is not a job … I absolutely love coming to work.

What’s your favorite place to visit?

Aspen, Colorado.  I love to ski and would love to retire there.

What’s your favorite food?

Everyone is going to laugh … salads, or actually lettuce.  I love romaine, arugula, all of them.  And this is a drink, but anything diet and with LOTS of ice.

What is your favorite Sweet Ali’s item?

The banana split cupcake.  The mint brownies are awesome too.

What’s your one indulgence?

French macaroons, any flavor.  Trader Joe’s sells a frozen variety pack with raspberry, salted caramel, chocolate, pistachio, mocha … delicious!

What’s your favorite Sweet Ali’s music mix?

Three Dog Night and the 1980’s mix.

What is one thing about you that people would be surprised to know?

My husband and I have been married for 35 years, and we were high school sweethearts; I’ve been a jazzercise instructor and a rep for a book distributor; and I love to work in my daughter’s barn with the horses.
