You may have met Rita at one of the many stores that carry Sweet Ali’s products, and if so you have certainly encountered her contagious joy and enthusiasm.  As one of Sweet Ali’s Wholesale Account Managers, Rita’s passion for our products and customers has been instrumental in building Sweet Ali’s presence in grocery stores and restaurants across Chicagoland.  And thanks to Sweet Ali’s customers, both old and new and near and far, our bakery ovens are always hot!

What is your job at Sweet Ali’s?

I get to meet other gluten free fans by doing demos in our wholesale locations.  I also sell to those locations.  Our customers request us, so my job is really easy.  Any ideas where you would like to buy Sweet Ali’s?

What brought you to Sweet Ali’s?  How did you get here?

Susan, Ali’s sister-in-law, told me about Ali opening up a bakery.  I said it would be a dream job for me.  Susan told me to report the next morning … and I did!  Ali did not even have the chance to interview me since she was busy opening the bakery.  I am so pleased that Ali kept me on and that Susan gave me the opportunity.

What’s your favorite thing about working at Sweet Ali’s?

The staff at the bakery and our customers.  It is rare in this day and age to work with people who have integrity and who find joy in doing a job well.  Each person brings her individual gifts to work each and every day.  They are also fun-loving and talented.  We are a family.

What’s your favorite place to visit?

I am sure that most people think of a destination, but my favorite place is around a dining room table after sharing a meal.  There is nothing like sharing fellowship with family and friends.  I have cried, laughed, and served as a political commentator, advice columnist, marriage therapist, comedian … well, you get the idea.  Some of my favorite memories have been around a table sharing life’s experiences.

What’s your favorite food?

I have a love-hate relationship with food.  I love to eat, but hate when I think the washing machine shrunk my pants.  You name it, I will eat it … except meat.  My guilty pleasure once a year is a hamburger (no bun, of course).

What is your favorite Sweet Ali’s item?

I have many, but the one thing that I start on and cannot stop is Bill’s tempe mix.  I can eat the whole container while driving in the car.  I am not a huge cake person.  Frosting … now, that’s another matter all together.

What’s your one indulgence?

Giving me your time to read this … I am not that darn interesting!!!

What your favorite Sweet Ali’s music mix?

I am in my car, not in the bakery, since I travel from account to account.  I listen to talk radio, from left- and right-winged politics to sports.  I feel if I learn one new thing a day, I will be a smarter person.  Today, I learned about carpenter bees.

What’s one thing about you people would be surprised to know?

I was as bald as a billiard 4 years ago.  Gluten free has helped me manage my auto-immune diseases.

Please put your products in Treasure Island Grocery Stores, in particular the one on Broadway and Cornelia in Chicago! I ask for them all the time and they used to carry them but the service desk has been telling me there is a “shortage.”

      Hi Julie,
Have no fear, there is certainly no shortage of Sweet Ali’s! While we will no longer be found in Treasure Island Grocery Stores, there are many options for finding Sweet Ali’s. Aside from taking a ride to our bakery in Hinsdale, there are many sources (go to “Where can you find Sweet Ali’s” from the “About” link on the home page of our website) where you can find our products throughout the Chicagoland area. You can also go to http://www.artizone.com – a wonderful online shopping site which has about 80 of our products that you can order and have delivered to you the following day. In addition, we accept special orders (give me a call at the bakery) which we can deliver, and we also ship from our online website. Hope this helps bring Sweet Ali’s back into your life to enjoy! Karrie
